Merry Christmas

Ho Ho Ho

Saturday, December 23, 2006

I've decided to run a nice Christmas comp for all the boys and girls from the club.

The prize is an ADCC Submission Wrestling t-shirt from the 2005 Championships.

The comp is easy to enter - simply guess the results of the fights from UFC 66 - Liddell v Ortiz.

You need to give the winner of the fight, what round, what time, what it finished with.

eg. Liddell, rnd 2, 1.55, KO

Remember that title fights are 5 rounds. If you think a fight will go to decision then say so. All fights are included, event those that may not air.

If there is a draw I will run a tie-breaker.

The card is

Chuck Liddell v Tito Ortiz
Andrei Arlovski v Marcio 'Pe De Pano' Cruz
Forrest Griffin v Keith Jardine
Chris Leben v Jason McDonald
Rory Singer v Yushin Okami
Gabriel Gonzaga v Carmelo Marrero
Mike Bisping v Eric Schafer
Thiago Alves v Tony DeSouza
Christian Wellisch v Anthony Perosh

Post your results in the comments before midnight on 30th December.

Please put who you are as well so i know whose won.

Europeans in Portugal

Hey guys

Just wondered who is going to the Europeans in sunny Lisbon in January. Dates are 27th and 28th.

I know Dave and Ty are travelling with Marc but I've done some research and found flights for £151 from Newcastle to Lisbon (leave on Friday 26th, return Monday 29th). Also the hotel will be the Altus Park **** just up the road from the venue. A room for 2 costs £70 each in total for 3 nights.

If you are going can you put a comment on here with your email and I'll send you the flight details so we can all get on the same flight. I'll let you know about the hotel later.

Scottish update

The Sportfight show was awesome, well run with a classy crowd and hosts.

I got tooled in my fight after being on the guys back for a round and unable to finish him off. I'll have to wait to see the video to see what happened but I think punched in the head a lot by a heavier guy.

More bad news is my right thumb is snapped. I'm having surgery at 10.30 tomorrow, so that sucks.

Daves fight was pretty damn action packed considering it only went one minute forty something with a slam two takedowns and some bombs thrown but he won through a leglock battle that was pretty hairy!

I'll post up the videos when they are available.

See you guys tonight.

Last nights tournament was brilliant, many, many quality match-ups and very entertaining to boot.

1st Tyrone
2nd Lisa
3rd Tanya

1st Dom
2nd Bill
3rd Kieron

1st Ingold
2nd Neil
3rd Ross

1st James
2nd Jez
3rd Michael

In the under 86 division I'm pretty sure I saw Ross catch Neil with a slick armbar, maybe they switched because of injury?

Standby for the best sub and most technical fighter!

The stud of the night award goes to...
Jez for being awesome. Well done man.

Okay next business is Sundays tickets, the deal is this; if you want to travel and make sure you get in, tell me or dave or leave a comment. The last Sportfight Scotland was full to bursting and they had to turn people away on the door. It would be a shame to make the trip and spend the night in a car park. Me and Dave will make a provisional list up to give to the promoters so tickets will be available on the door, everyone will be happy.

Guess who? Post answers to comments.

In-club tournament tonight Wed 6th - Who's got the moves?

Time to don your gi's and show your stuff in three different weight brackets; light, medium and heavy. No belt categories!

Please make every effort to get yourself along and have a go. The taking part is important no matter what the outcome. If someone puts the moves on you then we'll just laugh about it and keep replaying the video forever and put it up on the web.

Try to get there early as well!

Special prize for best sub and most technical fighter :-)

Happy birthday Tyrone ;)

'Fight Gone Bad'

In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. We used this in the 3 round version. The stations are:

  1. Wall-ball, 8 ft target. (Reps)
  2. Deadlift high-pull 95 pounds (Reps)
  3. Box Jump 20" box (Reps)
  4. Push-press 45 pounds (Reps)
  5. Row on the C2 for calories (Calories)

The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. On call of "rotate," the athlete/s must move to next station immediately for good score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point.

This is slightly modified from CrossFit's official version, details here
Fight gone bad video, large video file!

Daves total score: 293
Ians total score: 288

Anyone want to give this a try tonight?

Fight Conditioning

Yesterday morning me and Dave tried the Crossfit workout 'nasty girls' finishing within a second of each other; 9:22, 9:23 WOD video

The workout consists of 3 rounds for time of:

50 squats
7 muscle-ups
10 95lb hang power cleans

It's easily the most metabolically demanding and crucifying crossfit workout I've done and we stormed it.

NEWSFLASH - Those boys are in shape for fighting!

If Daves fights ever last more than thirty seconds he can show off his stamina :-)
